2005 Saddleback Cellars Merlot - Atlas Peak, Ca

From the master Nils Venge comes this barrel-select 100% single vineyard Merlot from Atlas Peak! Grown on the super steep Coliseum Block by Henry Hossfeld. Sweet fruit, black cherry and vanilla with rich, fine grained tannins. Hints of saddle and woodsmoke. Good weight and structure. This one should pair well with grilled or roasted beef, duck, braised or grilled chicken and pork loin. Only 57 cases were produced.

2006 Terlato - Cabernet Sauvignon - Stags Leap District, Napa

Universally hailed as one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon appellations, the Stags Leap District offers a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon rich in layers of cassis, cocoa and blueberry with hints of expressive vanilla. Loaded with berry flavors and firm tannins. A long finish and great balance. Enjoyable while young, it will reward those with the patience to cellar it for a few years. The edK at the Eldorado Hotel in Sonoma

 Off the Vine stopped by Chef Justin Everett’s “farm driven” El Dorado Kitchen (the edK) on the plaza in Sonoma for a spot of lunch. The restaurant is quite handsome with a sort of wine country meets urban chic vibe. 

Starting things off was a wonderful and well prepared Rillette of Ham Hock served with a pickled red onion and black pepper marmalade. The marmalade was a revelation, with sweetness balanced by a warm pepper-pot of yummy goodness. Read on

2007 Dutton Estate - Pinot Noir - Thomas Road, Russian River, Ca

This is an earthy and complex wine showing raspberry, blackberry and other dark red fruits on the nose and on the palate. Silky tannins, bright acidity and pepper spice with great balance. The wine has the power to age well. Grown in the Green Valley sub-app of the Russian River Valley, in somewhat rocky soils. Small production. Outstanding quality! 352 case production.
